JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Jim Doyle on Monday canceled a state travel contract awarded by a state employee accused of fraud in the deal, but he refused to return $20,000 in campaign donations from the company's executives.
The governor acknowledged that the employee's indictment called into question whether politics influenced the awarding of the contract, and asked officials to review the overall process.
A federal grand jury last week indicted purchasing official Georgia Thompson on charges of illegally steering the contract to Adelman Travel Group. She is to be arraigned Friday on fraud charges.
