NEW DELHI (AP) - Communist parties in India's coalition government demanded Tuesday that Washington withdraw its ambassador for saying the two countries' nuclear deal could collapse if India doesn't support U.S. efforts to halt Iran's nuclear program.
Communists control around 50 seats in India's 545-seat parliament, and their support is crucial to the survival of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's 19-month-old government.
Indian officials did not immediately comment on the communists' demand. The U.S. Embassy also declined to respond.
