Royal Dutch Shell 4Q Earnings Decline

(AP Photo/Peter Dejong)THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) - Royal Dutch Shell PLC said Thursday fourth-quarter earnings dropped 4 percent and sales dipped 2 percent, as the impact from hurricanes Katrina and Rita outweighed the high price of oil.

Net profit was $4.37 billion, down from $4.57 billion, while sales fell to $92.8 billion from $95.1 billion.

By comparison, Exxon Mobil Corp. reported a 27 percent rise in fourth-quarter earnings earlier this week.
