SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Police investigating the deaths of 13 hospital patients in eastern Australia on Monday recommended charging an Indian-born American surgeon with four counts of manslaughter and six counts of grievous bodily harm.
Dr. Jayant Patel should also face 16 charges of fraud, Queensland state Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson told reporters.
The recommendations were forwarded along with stacks of evidence compiled over several months to the state's public prosecutor, who will now decide whether to bring charges, Atkinson said.
