TURIN, Italy (AP) - Todd Hays says he has no concerns about racing on the same bobsled track on which he was seriously injured last year. The U.S. driver, a medal favorite in both the two-man and four-man events, was hurt in January 2005 on the Cesana track that will host bobsled events at the Turin Games.
The left rear runner of a four-man bobsled sliced off part of his right foot. Though he finished the race, he could feel blood running into his shoes midway through the run. At the end, when he took off his shoe, "You could see some parts that you didn't want to see, didn't know you had."
He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, but the driver got lost twice.
