Now, Maryland Truly Is 'Garyland'

(AP) - During his reign at Maryland, Lefty Driesell was known for flashing the "V" sign to the crowd and stomping his foot on the sideline.

Driesell also had a reputation for winning, as evidenced by his unprecedented 348 victories over 17 seasons with the Terrapins.

That record no longer stands. The new winningest men's basketball coach at Maryland is Gary Williams, whose mannerisms and success rate at his alma mater are not unlike those of the man known as the Ol' Left-hander.
