TURIN, Italy (AP) - Italy will replace its two injured ski jumpers with athletes from its Nordic combined team, making the host nation even more of a longshot to win a medal. The Italians were not considered contenders in ski jumping, but they were hoping to perform well in front of the home crowd at Pragelato.
Instead, the team will take the unusual move of using Nordic combined athletes to replace the injured Marco Beltrame and Stefano Chiapolino.
"With a lower number of athletes, we will take part in the same number of events," Italian delegation head Raffaele Pagnozzi said Wednesday.
