Defensive Mavs Are Winners of 12 Straight

(AP Photo/Tony Gutierrez)DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas Mavericks have the NBA's longest winning streak, the best record in the Western Conference and even stopped Kobe Bryant.

Coach Avery Johnson keeps stressing defense, and the Mavericks have responded. They've held their last 12 opponents under 100 points — and Bryant well below 50 — in a team-record stretch that concurs with their winning streak.

"It's a team that's making some strides," Johnson said Wednesday. "But don't be crazy. We haven't arrived. They don't give out any trophies in February."
