EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Dick Bavetta refereed his 2,135th consecutive NBA game Wednesday night, breaking the record for most games officiated held by former referee Jake O'Donnell.
Bavetta, 66, broke the mark when he tossed the ball up to start the game between the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets.
Bavetta has been an NBA official for 31 years and has worked more than 200 NBA playoff games — which the league counts separately — and 23 NBA Finals games.
