RENO, Nev. (AP) - Former Nevada basketball coach Jim Carey, who led the Wolf Pack into their first postseason tournament as a Division I school, died at the age of 76.
Carey, who lived in Garden City, Kan., died Saturday of congestive heart failure in a hospital in Wichita, Kan. He ended his coaching career at Garden City Community College from 1982-93 before retiring.
Carey had a 65-46 record at Nevada from 1976-80, leading the Wolf Pack to the second round of the NIT in 1979. That was the first postseason tournament for the Wolf Pack after entering Division I in 1969-70.
