NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An all-woman parade club donated $50,000 Wednesday to the Police Department to help underwrite the costs of staging the city's first post-Katrina Mardi Gras.
"The donation is our members' way of expressing their love for the city of New Orleans, and also to say thank you to those who keep it safe for all of us," said Staci Rosenberg, captain of Muse, a krewe with more than 700 members.
This year's Carnival will include a week of parades curtailed from the usual 12 days that culminates on Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, which is Feb. 28 this year.
