MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The state Supreme Court on Friday denied a new trial for a police detective convicted of strangling his estranged wife and setting fire to her home to cover up the crime eight years ago.
The court said John Maloney had not presented enough proof to support his claim that a former district attorney manipulated evidence.
Former Winnebago County District Attorney Joe Paulus is serving a five-year prison sentence for accepting $48,000 in bribes in 22 cases to reduce or dismiss charges. The ruling left open the possibility of future appeals.
