NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - Prosecutors on Friday charged the owner of a building that collapsed in Nairobi with 14 counts of manslaughter, alleging he did not take proper precautions and failed to follow city bylaws. At least 17 people were killed in the disaster last month.
Businessman Francis Kihonge pleaded not guilty to the charges, which carry a possible sentence of life in prison. He also pleaded not guilty to charges of negligence and putting up a building without official approval in connection with the collapse.
Prosecutor Stephen Chacha said additional counts of manslaughter may be filed.
