SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Computer-chip maker Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Tuesday said it is buying the printer-chip business of Avago Technologies for $240 million in cash, its third acquisition in the past six months.
The deal will give Sunnyvale-based Marvell an entry into the market for inkjet and laser-jet printers.
Privately-held San Jose-based Avago makes the chips and related software that power printers. Palo Alto-based Hewlett-Packard Co., its one-time parent, is its biggest customer for printer-related chips.
