CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Hall of Fame Racing, the NASCAR team owned by former NFL quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach, received its first penalties Tuesday for infractions during the Daytona 500.
NASCAR found an unapproved carburetor on the No. 96 Chevrolet during qualifying for the 500. The infraction received far less attention after Jimmie Johnson's crew chief was caught cheating the same day.
NASCAR penalized Hall of Fame Racing by fining crew chief Philippe Lopez $25,000 and docking driver Terry Labonte 25 points. William Saunders, a partner of Aikman's and Staubach's, was docked 25 car owner points.
