LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an attempt by Arkansas to block Oklahoma from taking legal action against several poultry companies accused of polluting a regional watershed.
Arkansas petitioned the court last year for permission to sue its neighbor, saying Oklahoma was improperly trying to impose water standards across state lines.
Attorney General Mike Beebe argued the standards would harm Arkansas' $2 billion poultry industry and argued that a 35-year-old agreement should be used to settle differences over rivers shared by the two states.
