NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louisiana's lieutenant governor is jumping into the wide-open race for mayor, adding his name to an already crowded field of candidates vying to lead the hurricane-ravaged city.
Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, the longtime state legislator who is the son of former Mayor Moon Landrieu and brother of U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, planned to formally announce his candidacy for the April 22 election at a Wednesday afternoon news conference.
He is expected to become the best-known challenger to incumbent Ray Nagin in a race that has drawn a dozen announced candidates.
