FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Deutsche Boerse AG's chief executive said Wednesday that a combination with Euronext NV would be the best case for establishing a European stock market operator that could rival the U.S. and Asia.
CEO Reto Francioni was unabashedly open in his flattery of Euronext in his first major outing for the company since taking over in November after his predecessor was ousted over a failed bid for the London Stock Exchange.
"A combination of Deutsche Boerse and Euronext would create the first truly European exchange organization capable of asserting claims to global leadership," Francioni said a day after Deutsche Boerse announced its 2005 results.
