PITTSBURGH (AP) - A U.S. professor who collaborated with the South Korean scientist who faked stem cell research used that research to help get a $16 million federal grant, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
Documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act show University of Pittsburgh professor Gerald Schatten was awarded the five-year National Institutes of Health grant in September, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.
Schatten and two other researchers, Peter Donovan at the University of California, Irvine, and Roger Pedersen at the University of Cambridge in England, plan to create and test stem cells from cloned monkey embryos and also study some human stem cell lines.
