TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Big rigs passing through New Jersey must be allowed to use local roads, according to a federal appeals court ruling that invalidated a 7-year-old ban.
The state had restricted the double-trailer trucks and many tractor-trailers to major highways unless they had an origin or a destination in New Jersey.
But a three-judge panel of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that New Jersey is violating the U.S. Constitution's "commerce clause" by discriminating against interstate commerce.
