COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The state is owed $13.5 million that allegedly was spent illegally as part of an ill-fated state investment in rare coins that has shaken Ohio's Republican leadership, the state auditor said in a report Wednesday.
The audit accuses coin dealer and GOP donor Tom Noe of funneling state dollars into his own businesses starting the same day in 1998 that he received the first of two $25 million investments from the state insurance fund for injured workers.
The report by Auditor Betty Montgomery says the money is owed by Noe, his businesses and a business associate.
