COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - It was a party 20 years in the making.
A crowd of 7,174 stuck around to sing and applaud while members of Ohio State's women's basketball team cut down the nets after beating Purdue 67-58 on Thursday, clinching the Buckeyes' first outright Big Ten title since 1985-86.
"Since this was my last year, I really wanted to go out with a bang," said starting forward Debbie Merrill, a transfer from Cincinnati who sat out last season. "This was really big for me."
