MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexican soft-drink bottling company Coca-Cola Femsa SA reported higher sales and operating profits in the fourth quarter, but net profit slipped on higher taxes.
Coca-Cola Femsa, the world's second-largest Coke bottler and the biggest in Latin America, said Friday its net profit was 1.43 billion pesos ($137 million), or 0.77 peso (7 cents) a share. That's down 1.7 percent from the year-ago quarter because of a one-time tax benefit in 2004, the company said.
Sales in the quarter rose 2.9 percent from the same period a year earlier to 13.11 billion pesos ($1.25 billion), while operating profit rose 4.5 percent to 2.45 billion pesos ($234 million).
