SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A track coach snared in the BALCO doping scandal was sentenced to a year of probation Friday after a federal judge said she was moved by stories of his tireless coaching of track athletes, many of them amateurs.
Remi Korchemny, 73, of Castro Valley, also was ordered to undergo mandatory drug testing and avoid all contact with the other defendants in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative firm case.
"The harm done was really to the athletes that you were coaching and that's something you will have to live with and they will have to cope with over time," U.S. District Judge Susan Illston said.
