BEIJING (AP) - A Chinese lawmaker called Monday for police to tape interrogations in possible death penalty cases following widespread complaints of confessions being forced by torture, state-run media said.
Yu Min, a delegate to China's National People's Congress, said measures were needed "to curb inquisition by torture," according to the Xinhua News Agency.
"Although much rectification has been made, there remains an outstanding problem of inquisition by torture in the judicial sector," Yu said. "It's apparently not enough to merely ask judicial staff to change their mind-set."
