JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - A woman who accused South Africa's former deputy president of rape testified Monday that the man she had known since she was 5 forced himself on her when she was a guest in his home.
The 31-year-old AIDS activist's wrenching testimony came at the start of one of two criminal trials that appear to have left Jacob Zuma's political career in tatters.
But Zuma still has supporters who see him as a defender of the common man, the poor and the downtrodden. Hundreds chanted, sang and danced outside the courthouse Monday and briefly scuffled with police in a demonstration reminiscent of a political rally.
