JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Bankrupt supermarket chain Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. was given a 30-day extension until April 19 to file its reorganization plan Thursday, but the company still hopes to emerge from bankruptcy this summer.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Jerry Funk approved the request after Winn-Dixie said the company's thousands of creditors need more time beyond the current March 20 deadline. The creditors are attempting to come up with a plan on how they much will be paid by the company in its reorganization plan.
The extension gives the company until June 21 to secure approval of the plan.
