CHELTENHAM, England (AP) - Favorite Brave Inca pulled away from two-time champion Hardy Eustace and held off a strong challenge from Macs Joy to win the $591,000 Champion Hurdle on Tuesday, the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.
Third behind Hardy Eustace a year ago, the 8-year-old gelding hit the front after the last fence with 400 yards to go with 10-time champion jockey Tony McCoy aboard.
Hardy Eustace, an 11-2 choice ridden by Conor O'Dwyer, couldn't respond and the biggest challenge came from Macs Joy.
