Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra shakes hands with his supporters during an election campaign in Ayuthaya province, north of Bangkok, Thailand, Thursday, March 16, 2006. Thaksin vowed Thursday to hold onto his job in the face of mass street protests, saying he would not bow to mob rule but that he might retire from politics at a later date. (AP Photo)BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra vowed Thursday to lead his party to victory in next month's election despite widespread street protests demanding he step down. But there were growing doubts about whether the polls can be successfully held.

But on Thursday he said he would not bow to mob rule and denied reports that he will step aside.
