COTONOU, Benin (AP) - Voters chose between a top African economist and a former prime minister in a runoff vote to select Benin's next leader Sunday.
Polls in the capital, Cotonou, opened on time and voters stood in line to cast their ballots after days of discussion and confusion over which day the second-round election should take place.
Yayi Boni, a 58-year-old economist who previously ran the West African Development Bank, faced off against Adrien Houngbedji, a 64-year-old former prime minister, after neither candidate garnered enough votes in the first round March 5 to avoid a runoff.
