Tuesday, March 21, 2006 2:47:45 PM
By BOB JOHNSON

Former Alabama Chief Justice Moore Roy Moore meets with supporters after a news conference, Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Birmingham, Ala. Moore said Tuesday he won't abandon his Republican race for governor and become an independent candidate. Moore also said he has no intentions of switching to the race for chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, the post he was ousted from in his legal fight over a Ten Commandments monument. (AP) - The former Alabama Supreme Court justice who was ousted for refusing to remove a Ten Commandments monument from court property denied rumors Tuesday that he would switch parties in his race for governor.

Rumors that Roy Moore would switch from the Republican ticket to an independent candidacy to oppose Republican Gov. Bob Riley, or possibly drop out of the governor's race and run again for chief justice, have been rampant in Alabama political circles in recent weeks.

Moore called the news conference Tuesday to dispel those rumors.
