NEW YORK (AP) - Silver climbed to a new 19-year high Tuesday on news that a much anticipated silver exchange traded fund was partially approved by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The most-active May contract reached a $10.58 an ounce high, marking its best performance since April 1987 when the white metal reached an $11.25 an ounce high.
The contract later settled at $10.565 an ounce, up 20.3 cents, on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Tuesday's session also marked the metal's best close since October 1983.
