DALLAS (AP) - American Airlines is funding a new organization to oppose Southwest Airlines Co.'s campaign to ease flight restrictions at Dallas Love Field.
American, a unit of AMR Corp., said Tuesday it has provided $500,000 to launch the group, called Stop and Think, which immediately took out full-page newspaper advertisements and held a news conference to protest expansion at Love Field. The group also plans television ads.
Southwest wants Congress to repeal limits on long flights to and from Love Field. American and its hub, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, favor the 1979 restrictions, which limit flights from Love Field to Texas and eight nearby states.
