FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Bronson Arroyo clutched his going-away gift, a black autographed bat from Manny Ramirez. A delivery containing a 3-wood golf club arrived as the pitcher stood in the clubhouse he would soon leave.
"Arroyo, here's your last package," assistant equipment manager "Pookie" Jackson said with a good-natured smile Tuesday.
Arroyo flashed his usual smile back, but on this day the expression couldn't mask his sadness. He was leaving a city he loved where he bought a home less than two months ago and where he and Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein played guitar at the same charity event last summer.
