NEW YORK (AP) - Thanks to an appeals court, Internet stock king Frank Quattrone gets a new trial and tens of thousands of businesses around the country might have to worry less about the paperwork they trash.
Quattrone had faced 18 months in prison after prosecutors convinced a jury that he tried to impede investigators in 2000 by encouraging deletion of files at Credit Suisse First Boston Corp., where he supervised 400 people.
Monday's 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling came after the U.S. Supreme Court last year paved the way by tossing out on similar grounds the conviction of the Arthur Andersen accounting firm for destroying Enron Corp.-related documents.
