RED LAKE, Minn. (AP) - It was Derrick Brun's playful side, as much as his bravery, that family and friends remembered at a service Tuesday, the first anniversary of a teen gunman's rampage in which the school security guard was among 10 people who died.
Victoria Brun, his sister, recalled a night Brun was working as a police officer and called to a domestic dispute. Members of the household had been drinking, and they were arguing so loudly he couldn't get a word in.
So Brun stretched out on the couch and waited, joking, "This reminds me of home."
