SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - A former general was among 13 retired army officers indicted Tuesday on homicide charges in one of the most notorious cases of human rights violations during the dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet.
Judge Oscar Montiglio, who announced the indictments, ordered the arrests of the 13 officers in the so-called Caravan of Death, in which investigators charge that 75 jailed dissidents were killed by the military in the weeks immediately after Pinochet's bloody 1973 coup.
A dozen officers have already been indicted, but Tuesday's warrants were issued against officers who were serving at regiments visited by the Caravan and allegedly helped the repression by participating in illegal executions and burials.
