BOSTON (AP) - A panel reviewing the case of a 12-year-old brain-damaged girl who was at the center of a right-to-die fight found a series of errors in her care, and recommended new guidelines for removing a child from life support.
The panel appointed by Gov. Mitt Romney found that mistakes were made by state agencies and medical professionals in Haleigh Pouture's case. Haleigh has been in state custody since she was hospitalized in September after a beating allegedly inflicted by her adoptive mother and stepfather.
The state had won approval to remove her from life support, but before she was, she began breathing on her own. She is now in a rehabilitation center.
