GENEVA (AP) - The United States and European Union on Wednesday agreed to cut several tariffs for U.S. farm and industrial goods being exported to 10 countries that joined the EU in 2004.
The EU will reduce tariffs on some goods, such as chemicals and fish, and expand tariff quotas for other U.S. exports like boneless ham, poultry and chocolate, the U.S. Trade Representative's office said. The changes will go into effect no later than July 1.
The 10 new EU member states mainly in Eastern Europe were required to change their import tariff regimes when they joined to confirm with Brussels' rules, resulting in some higher tariffs.
