British Airways to Close 4 Call Centers

Wednesday, March 22, 2006 7:22:46 PM

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua (AP) - British Airways PLC will close its four call centers in the Caribbean due to reduced demand for the services and to the growth of the Internet, a company official said Wednesday.

The centers in Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados will shutter their doors on June 30. The one in Jamaica will close on May 31, said Elvin Sealy, BA's commercial manager for the South Caribbean.

"We have now moved forward into an era where the number of people wanting to do business by calling a small call center have reduced," Sealy said, noting more people prefer to buy plane tickets online.
