BERLIN (AP) - Union representatives said Monday they will meet this week with DaimlerChrysler AG management to try to ease the blow to workers who will be affected by the company's decision to stop producing the Smart ForFour model.
DaimlerChrysler said Saturday that it plans to end production of the Smart unit's four-seat model. That would leave Smart to concentrate on its more popular two-seat ForTwo, and "ensure the long-term sustainability of the Smart brand," DaimlerChrysler said.
"Thus, the profitability of Smart will be confirmed, with positive results expected from 2007 onward," it said.
