WASHINGTON (AP) - Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper called President Bush with thanks Monday for U.S. help in rescuing three peace activists from captivity in Iraq last week.
The activists two Canadians and one Briton were freed without a shot, ending a four-month hostage drama in which an American among the group was shot to death and dumped on a Baghdad street.
The two leaders also discussed Afghanistan in light of their recent visits there, National Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones said. And they exchanged notes on their three-way meeting with Mexican President Vicente Fox in Cancun on Thursday and Friday. Cancun will be the first time Bush and Harper have met since the Canadian took office in February.
