NEW YORK (AP) - Gannett Co., the largest newspaper publisher in the country, said in a regulatory filing Monday that its employment contract with its chairman, Douglas McCorkindale, would not be renewed this June.
McCorkindale has indicated that he intends to retire, and his term as a board member runs through April 2007. He had previously held the title of chief executive as well, but Craig Dubow succeeded him in that role in July of 2005. McCorkindale will turn 67 this June.
Gannett also said Monday that its board had elected Arthur Harper to serve as a director effective March 31. Harper is a retired CEO of General Electric Co.'s equipment services division.
