TOKYO (AP) - Japanese stocks fell Tuesday at midday, with shipping and utility companies among the losers. The dollar was higher against the yen.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 95.54 points, or 0.60 percent, to 16,554.56 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Tuesday. On Monday, the Nikkei rose 89.23 points, or 0.54 percent.
The sell-off in early trading eased in the morning session's closing rounds, with shipping and utility issues the main losers. Tokyo Gas Co. shed 1.32 percent, while shipbuilder NYK Line lost 1.73 percent.
