FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - David Wells made his second and final start of spring training.
Boston's 42-year-old left-hander, back from offseason knee surgery, plans to retire after this season. A career that began in 1982 with Medicine Hat, a team from Canada in the Pioneer League, has produced 209 wins for eight major league clubs.
"I would have never thought I'd make it 25 years in spring training," Wells said after the Red Sox 12-11 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Monday. "That's basically for the love of the game. You come out every year, year after year, and do something that you grew up admiring."
