BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - Bangkok's busiest shopping district braced for anti-government demonstrations, with three of the Thai capital's major retail complexes saying Tuesday they will close their doors during street protests against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Stepping up their campaign to force Thaksin to resign ahead of this weekend's election, activists called for a Wednesday rally at the capital's newest and ritziest shopping mall, Siam Paragon, which then announced it would close for two days during the protest.
Siam Paragon and two adjoining shopping malls said they planned to close Wednesday and Thursday, because anticipated traffic jams would make it difficult for employees to get to work and for deliveries to be made.
