TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Hundreds of Tucson-area students are participating in a worldwide project tracking how artificial lights dim views of the stars in at least a dozen countries.
As part of the weeklong survey that ends Wednesday, participants in Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment will study the constellation Orion and mark the visibility level. Their data is being stored on a Web site for reference.
The project, known by the acronym GLOBE, started in Tucson at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory and is now in its second year.
