CHICAGO (AP) - The Nation of Islam official whose presence on the state's hate crimes commission prompted the resignations of five Jewish members disputes the governor's claim that he didn't know about her affiliation when he named her to the panel.
When the controversy erupted earlier this month, Gov. Rod Blagojevich said he didn't know that Sister Claudette Marie Muhammad was a Nation of Islam official when he appointed her.
But in a March 2 letter to Blagojevich, Muhammad said she had met him twice.
