NEW DELHI (AP) - India's weightlifting team was suspended from international competition after four of its athletes failed doping tests.
The International Weightlifting Federation announced the suspension Wednesday, saying it would decide on the length of the ban in May. Under IWF rules, a national federation faces a two-year ban if three of its lifters test positive during a one-year period.
Edwin Raju and Tajinder Singh tested positive for the steroid stanozolol in out-of-competition tests on the eve of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, this month. In separate cases, female lifters Bodari Prameela Valli and Sailaja Pujari tested positive for unidentified substances.
