BEIJING (AP) - China on Friday expressed regret at U.S. and European Union complaints filed in an attempt to force Beijing to lower its duties on auto parts imports.
The complaints say Beijing's tariffs unfairly compel automakers to use Chinese-made parts in cars assembled in China. The two governments requested talks with Beijing, starting a process that could lead to a formal World Trade Organization complaint.
"The Chinese side expresses regret at this," Commerce Ministry spokesman Chong Quan said in a statement on the ministry Web site. "The Chinese side is conscientiously researching the EU and U.S. requests."
